The Amber Shop has been dealing in amber for over 100 years, making us the oldest amber dealers in the United Kingdom. We have a large range of both contemporary and traditional amber jewellery, set in silver, gold and silver goldplated. Our amber is largely sourced from the baltic, where our directors travel every year to hand pick unusual and unique jewellery.

Robin and Astrid Fournel, the owners of The Amber Shop, have over 40 years experience in the jewellery trade. In 1981 Robin and Asrid bought their first shop in Aldeburgh (now called Fournel Jewellers) and 7 years later, in 1988, they added The Amber Shop Southwold. Since that time they have been travelling far and wide to find fine examples of amber- carvings, unusual jewellery and have had several pieces commisioned for themselves. Some of these pieces can be found on display in the amber museum (for more information see Amber Musuem). In 2005 4-NEL Jewellers in Bungay was opened, to offer a wide selection of jewellery in this up and coming in-land town.

In August 2008 Lizzie and Hetty both gained the National Association of Goldsmiths internationally-acclaimed Professional Jewellers Diploma. After 18 months of intensive study completed by a final exam, they are recognised by the N.A.G as professional jewellers and may use the letters PJ Dip. after their name. They were required to demonstrate a sound understanding of the jewellery industry, including topics such as security, consumer law, gemstones, hallmarks, sales techniques and the principles of valuations.

Robin and Astrid expressed their pride in having such a dedicated team and Robin said: "This not only ensures their future in the jewellery trade but also means that customers can rest assured that they are being served by a knowledgeable member of staff and will receive the best professional advice."

The latest addition to our team is Annie, who has now started the National Assosiation of Goldsmiths Professional Jewellers Diploma.
